Rob Roy Hotel

Rob Roy Hotel

2024

This Hotel and it's owner holds a very special place in several Quantum Investigators heart's. Kevin is a great guy who has accommodated us for hours upon hours everytime we have visited as well as puttinhg up with our endless questions! The Rob Roy is situated in Waihi, a town that sprang up around the gold, ore and quartz mines many many years ago and is today, still operating a working mine. It was notorious for the miners strike riots which, according to legend, began at the Rob Roy Hotel. The hotel itself is a historical beauty which Kevin is very slowly renovating himself - no mean feat I might add as this is a large hotel with several bars and 2 accommodation wings upstairs. We visit Kevin and his hotel everytime we are in the neighbourhood and ejoy our time with him. You can read the history on this location and it's alleged hauntings on our Haunted NZ pages.

The Walk Through

We were late in arriving at the Rob Roy as we had spent the afternoon at the Waikino Hotel taking photo's and chatting with the Caretaker - another great friend of Quantum's! This also meant we were late in leaving as we never spend less than a couple of hours chatting away to Kevin and time passess very quickly when you are there.

The back of the bar area The Lobby

On this occassion, Kevin gave us a 'behind the scenes' guided tour of the downstairs area's so we could photographically document it. This included the newly refurbished kitchen, under refurbishment restaurant and bar, snug bar and the to be refurbished reception area's. There are so many original features it really is a delight to see them being kept. We even got to venture into the underground cellars which was quite the descent! We will be returning in the near future to document the upper levels of both wings of the building as it goes through it's major makeover.
